I’m a figurative portrait and series painter. I have exhibited in New York, Minneapolis and other parts of New England. I studied at the Florence Academy of Art which has greatly influenced my work and process. By day, I have worked as a creative director and designer for 15 years.
Identities is a focus in my work. Points in time where the character fully embraces their identity is highly interesting to me. Identity has always proven to be a challenging struggle for me personally. The artwork, the content, the medium is an opportunity to escape into another identity that appears to be more interesting. In capturing these specific moments, it allows for an escape into another place and time.
In more later works, expressing the same identity through many different pieces allows for a deeper exploration into the motivations and feelings of these characters.
Today’s expected format of story, usually told through video, is a solid inspiration for this work. The general constructs of beginning, middle and end mean something specific to an American society that is celebrated. Throughout more recent work, the serial format allows painting to live beyond a static idea and become something closer to a memory or a lifetime for these identities to exist.
